accompanying programme
The accompanying programme of this year’s JUNIORSTAV 2025 conference has been designed to foster interdisciplinary dialogue, offer participants insights into the broader context of research in civil engineering and urbanism, and provide opportunities for informal networking in the cultural and historical setting of the city of Brno.
Opening Expert Lecture by CzechGlobe
The programme will commence with a keynote lecture delivered by representatives of the Global Change Research Institute of the Czech Academy of Sciences – CzechGlobe, an institution dedicated to the study of climate change and its effects on urban environments. Attendees will gain insights into the cooling potential of urban vegetation and its significance for sustainable urban planning, architecture, and adaptation strategies.

Excursion to the Starobrno Brewery
The first thematic excursion in the afternoon will lead participants to the Starobrno Brewery, one of the oldest breweries in the Czech Republic, with a history dating back to 1325. The tour includes a historical exhibition on brewing in Brno, visits to the brewhouse, fermentation cellar, and lager cellar, and concludes with a tasting of unfiltered beer directly from the tank. More information: heinekenceskarepublika.cz. For those interested in the excursion, a bus will be available at 15:45 in front of Building Z on Žižkova Street. Please note that the excursion is limited to 25 participants.
Excursion to the Museum of Bicycles in Brno–Židenice
The second excursion will take participants to the private Museum of Historical Bicycles in Brno–Židenice, established by former Favorit Brno cyclist Mr. Bořivoj Nakládal. The collection features over 60 unique exhibits – from 19th-century wooden velocipedes and penny-farthings to interwar touring bicycles and iconic racing models produced by Favorit. The museum is notable for its technical detail and the personal stories tied to individual exhibits. More information: kudyznudy.cz. For those interested in the excursion, a bus will be available at 15:45 in front of Building Z on Žižkova Street.

Evening Reception with Musical Performance by Sukuba Ensemble
The accompanying programme will conclude with a social evening reception held in a relaxed atmosphere and accompanied by live music performed by the Brno-based ensemble Sukuba Ensemble. This five-member group performs traditional melodies from across Europe as well as original compositions, often influenced by folk and cinematic/game music. Their repertoire includes motifs from The Witcher, Kingdom Come: Deliverance, and Assassin’s Creed, all rendered in an acoustic, stylistically rich arrangement. More information: sukubaensemble.cz
